Ensemble Baroque de Rennes: Filles du Roy

Period-instrument concert tracing the music and poetry of the Breton orphans who sailed to New France in the seventeenth century
Ensemble Baroque de Rennes takes audiences on a journey to the New World, following in the musical footsteps of 'Les Filles du Roy', or 'The Kings' Princesses': the orphans of Brittany who, in the seventeenth century, were married to men across the ocean.
These women made a long and arduous journey into the unknown, ultimately becoming the mothers of New France. Using instruments of the period (soprano, viola da gamba, baroque violin, harpsichord), the ensemble presents the music and poetry of their lives: the songs of their childhood, balls held in their honour and the new, exciting music of their new home, including pieces such as Iesous Ahatonhia (Huron Carol), Ah ma voisine ('Ah, My Neighbour') and Symphonies pour les Soupers du Roy.
