St. Helier: A Journey Through Time

A guided walk through St Helier's landmarks and wartime stories, from a martyred monk to the Battle of Jersey and Occupation defiance.
The walk tells the story of Helier, the Belgian monk who brought Christianity to the island and was brutally slain by pirates. It visits the Royal Square, centre of Jersey's Government since the 14th century, where visitors hear about local hero Major Francis Pierson, victor of the Battle of Jersey in 1781. There is also the story of how a local stonemason rebelled against the German occupying forces in the Second World War with a V sign. The walk explores some of Jersey's most important historical heritage.
This guided walk takes in many of Jersey's best-known landmarks, wartime stories and the centuries of heritage that shaped the island's identity. It suits history lovers, culture seekers and anyone curious about Jersey's past.
