Les Ecréhous Wildlife Seafaris

with Jersey Seafaris

On the Visitor Map
Les Ecrehous

Boat trips to the remote Ecréhous reef to spot seals, seabirds and perhaps dolphins, with time to explore sandbanks at low tide.

Les Ecréhous Wildlife Seafaris are among the operator's most popular Jersey Seafaris, heading out to Les Ecréhous, a remote archipelago of islands and reefs just 6 miles from Jersey and 8 miles from the French coast. Wild, peaceful and ever-changing, the Ecréhous offer an escape into largely untouched nature.

The trip begins with a cruise around the reef, where turquoise shallows meet sweeping sandbanks and rugged outcrops. The area is known for its birdlife, and Atlantic grey seals are often seen basking on the rocks. With luck, bottlenose dolphins may ride the bow wave beside the boat. Throughout the journey, the skippers and crew share stories, island folklore and insights about Jersey and its offshore islands.

A designated Ramsar wetland of international importance, the Ecréhous look very different depending on the tide. At high water, the traditional fishermen's huts appear almost adrift, isolated and exposed to the surrounding sea. When the tide drops, the landscape transforms: vast sandbanks emerge, rock pools glisten in the sun and the reef opens up into an otherworldly playground. It is a good place for paddleboarding, swimming, exploring or simply having a picnic with island views.

Because Jersey's tides are among the highest in the world, trip times vary throughout the year. The full schedule and live availability are on the operator's website.

Visitors are advised to bring a camera.
